chev·ron
ˈSHevrən/
noun
Chevron
is a French word meaning rafter and
symbolizing protection. Derived in the Middle Ages, the chevron symbol has been
used to honor those who have done notable work, and knights of this era wore the
symbol on shields going into battle.
In the 20th century, credit must be given to the beloved Charlie Brown who first took on chevron as
a fashion staple. Though the characteristics of Charlie Brown changed slightly over the
years one thing remains the same: his chevron stripe!
It wasn’t until the early 1970’s that
Italian designer, Ottavio Missoni made the chevron design so desirable in fashion, and soon
after the trend became popular in art and furniture design as well. Hello colorful chevron designs!!
Today, Chevron is commonly referred
to as the new stripe, and it is back in true fashion this spring and summer
season. Lightweight and colorful scarves, jewelry and totes are capturing the
chevron trend in both bold and subtle ways! Don't be intimidated by the zig-zag swag, start with a few simple accessories from lou lou to start your own style with chevron!
