Flowers, Art and Fashion

The Netherlands (Holland) is probably the most famous country in the world for their flowers. In general the climate is damp and covered in cloudy skies with intense rays of light shining from behind clouds, but the flowers and nature there are full of light and beauty, and the sunshine reflects through the vibrant colors. This scenery has inspired many fashion designers and artists alike. My sweet Dutch boyfriend (now my husband) used to bring me bunches of tulips when he came  home from work when we lived in Holland. It is a bright, vivid, and happy memory of my time spent there, and just another reason I was so excited when I saw floral popping up in 2014 fashion trends.

Rembrandt tulips are some of my favorite paintings like the one below.

England’s climate is very similar to that of the Netherlands and also well known for their beautiful gardens. Perhaps the most well recognized and universally inspired floral patterns come from Liberty of London. The intense color and detail of the floral fabric has been used for almost 150 years in fashion and interiors. Major designers from Kenzo, Alexander McQueen, J Crew, Target and other major brands and retailers have purchased rights or used fabrics of Liberty’s outstanding prints. This year Nike has even teamed up with them to put the prints on a sneaker!

Flowers are inspirational and meaningful, and floral patterns are a timeless way to express your inner girly girl.  There is not a better way to be one with nature, than to be one with nature and fashion!
